2014 Biennial Program Submissions update December 7, 2013
The selection process for the 2014 ISIS Conference in Montreal is now complete, and we are beginning to notify the candidates on its results.
We have more than 400 individual notifications to send out and since—for considerations of confidentiality—a strictly limited number of people have access to our records, the process may take two or three days to complete.

The Tenth Biennial Iranian Studies Conference
Montréal, Québec, Canada, Hilton Bonaventure Hotel
Wednesday August 6, 2014- Sunday August 10, 2014
The International Society for Iranian Studies (ISIS) is pleased to announce that the Tenth Biennial Iranian Studies conference will be held in Montréal, Québec, Canada from August 6-10, 2014 at the Hilton Bonaventure hotel. Registration begins on the 6th and the program extends until the evening of the 9th.
With over 25,000 Persian-speaking inhabitants, Montréal is home to one of the most vibrant communities in the global Iranian diaspora. As a centre for higher learning, Montréal is second only to Boston in all of North America, with four internationally-known universities and more than two dozen colleges. Famous for its superb restaurants and endless nightlife, Montréal is one of the world’s most lively and multicultural cities.
The Hilton Bonaventure hotel is an architectural gem reflecting Montréal’s unique identity and forward-looking culture. With a courtyard design occupying two levels above the centre city, its plush, quiet, modern rooms look out onto a lush, one hectare Zen-inspired rooftop garden featuring several small waterfalls and a heated pool. The hotel is connected to Montréal’s celebrated “underground city” and excellent metro system, minutes away by foot from the shops of Ste-Catherine Street, the cultural life of the Place-des-Arts, and the old world charm of Vieux Montréal
Announcement of a deadline extension
In view of your requests for a longer submissions period, the organizers of the Tenth Biennial ISIS conference in Montreal have taken the decision to extend the deadline by a month, to JUNE 30, 2013. We cannot extend the submissions period further, because the adjudicators need sufficient time to complete their assessments before the new academic year starts in earnest.
LANGUAGAGE OF THE CONFERENCE: The primary language of the conference is English, but papers in Persian will be considered as well. Usually, the latter are organized in Persian-only panels, which are so listed on our program.
SUBMISSION OF PROPOSALS: All proposals must be submitted electronically, through the ISIS website
MEMBERSHIP: Applicants for the 10th ISIS Conference in Montreal must be current members of ISIS, and must preregister for the conference. Queries on membership and preregistration matters can be addressed to our Executive Director Prof. Rivanne Sandler at firstname.lastname@example.org.
FORMAT OF PROPOSALS: Independent Paper proposals should include a bio of the presenter, and an abstract of the paper limited to a paragraph of no more than 400 words, outlining the central theme and main argument of the presentation.
Convenors of pre-organized panels should submit a personal bio and a panel proposal outlining the central theme of the panel, and indicating how the individual presentations (mentioned in the order in which they are to appear) relate to that theme. Please note: In order to insure the integrity of the “blind” adjudication, the names of the presenters should not be mentioned in the panel proposal. The format and word count of the panel abstract are as those for independent paper proposals. Panel members must submit personally their own bios and abstracts, which follow the format of the independent paper proposal, but include also the title of the panel, which the panel convenor should convey to the presenters. Please note: Only invited panel participants should submit papers to preorganised panels, by selecting from the drop-down menu the title of the panel, which their panel organizer has sent to them. Independent paper proposals are collected separately, and are put together in panels by the organizers of the conference, once the proposal has been accepted into the program.
Ordinarily panels comprise four presentations, but panels with three presenters will also be considered. In the latter case, the organizers may suggest to the panel convenor a fourth member, whose independent proposal is congruent with the topic of the panel.
The Conference organizers reserve the right to edit bios and abstracts of approved presentations before including them in the Conference Program.
MULTIPLE PROPOSALS: In order to accommodate an optimal number of participants in the limited time, allotted to the conference, each applicant may submit only one paper proposal. Candidates may appear in maximum two events (panels, round tables, workshops) in the capacity of panel organizers, discussants, panel chairs, round-table/workshop participants, or presenters.
General queries regarding the conference should be addressed to the ISIS office at email@example.com.
Problems with online payment for submissions to the 2014 conference should be directed to the ISIS Executive Director Professor Rivanne Sandler at firstname.lastname@example.org
